The DB2 Universal Database Performance Tuning Services engagement is designed to provide your organization with customized assistance and skills transfer with monitoring and tuning of DB2 Universal Database (UDB).

This service engagement involves in depth monitoring and tuning assistance with your development, test, and/or production DB2 UDB environment. This service engagement involves analysis of existing system hardware, software, and database configurations to pinpoint over utilized (bottlenecks) and under utilized system resources such as cpu, memory, disk, and network adapter cards. 

Background Information

Prior to DB2 Common Server (version 2.x) it was very difficult to monitor and tune for capacity and performance. This was primarily due to the lack of information and the abundance of misinformation pertaining to the internals of the DB2 database engine. Today the opposite is true, with almost two hundred counters, gauges, high water marks, informational and time stamp data elements, figuring out where to start can be a chore of it's own.

DB2 UDB provides several methods for collecting and analyzing database performance data. These include the Snapshot Monitor and Event Monitor. The Snapshot Monitor provides a means to collect data at a specific point in time. The Event Monitor provides a means to collect data over a period of time.
